Getting a Day Off

Not really a thing when you’re working on a Toronto Fringe Show.

I love the Fringe Festival. It brings a bunch of weirdo artists together in a tent who may have never met. You run into people you haven’t seen in a couple years and forgot how much you cherished them. It’s a truly beautiful thing.

But Fringe is also exhausting. As a producer I constantly have to be on the ball pushing my show over the 148 pieces taking place. This is not something I enjoy. But some one has to do it. So while the Getting Odd cast and crew take a well needed rest for the day I’ll be out there in my miscellaneous black flats hustling.

We have three more shows left. It’s crunch time. At the moment we’re twenty ticket sales behind our goal to fill each crew members stomach with one steak.

So while the ‘Steaks’ are high I will be around. Feel free to pat me on the back while I walk through the tent with a smile bigger than you’ve ever seen. Because I’ll be there.

Catch Getting Odd at the Factory Studio Theatre:

Thursday July 7th @ 9:45pm

Friday July 8th @ 12pm

Saturday July 9th @ 4pm

Half Way There

We’ve been enjoying our Fringing so far. It’s been quite the experience. We’ve got some good buzz going around the ears of the Fringe. We’ve got four more shows to check out! Two stellar reviews. And we’ve seen over ten shows.

We had the pleasure of being a part of the Constant Struggle Podcast, so stay tuned for the release as we chat with hosts Brie and Nick Watson about our struggles to get to fringe and our journey so far.

Show’s that we’ve seen that we’ve enjoyed and are happy to spread the love are:

-Romeo and Juliet Chainsaw Massacre

-Dan’s Inferno

-Waiting for Waiting for Godot

-Tonight’s Cancelled

-The End

And we’re pumped to keep fringing. See you around the tent!

Getting A Review!

We had such a wonderful loving audience at the show last night. Over 60 people were warming the seats with their bums and laughing in the most uncomfortable silences.

And after all the work and rehearsal we’ve finally made it.

THANK YOU TO EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO HAS SUPPORTED THIS SHOW!

Carpenter Artists

13495586_261999640832478_4945755168839373994_o.jpgWe spent the entire weekend working on our set. Allison and Emma got down on their knees with a hammer and nails.

Getting all prepared for our opening night this Thursday we decided to take the set into our own hands.

If anything, at least we have another skill to add to our resume.

One Week Away

ROMEOLINGAO-1-4We are in the final few days before the Toronto Fringe.

Not only are we so stoked to share this fun, fast paced, emotional roller coaster of a show with you we can’t wait to check out all the other amazing pieces being created at fringe.

Just a few to mention, since there are over 150 in the Toronto Fringe, include:

“That’s How I Remember it”, a completely improvised (made up on the spot) show featuring The Nice Guys and an awesome new guest every show. They improvise the plot to a show given to them from the audience! Opens July 1st, 4:45pm at the Al Green Theatre, their first guest is THE Colin Mochrie.

“Dan’s Inferno”, a sketch comedy journey through heaven, hell and everywhere in between, Dan’s Inferno follows a young man who wasted his life on Earth but finds purpose in what comes after. Featuring some of Toronto’s finest comedians, at least that’s what I’ve heard. Opens June 30th, 8:45pm at the Helen Gardiner.

“Orson Welles Shylock”, the story of Welles’ many unsuccessful attempts to play the role and the surprising and heartbreaking ways that his life overlapped with the character. Opens July 1st, 4:45pm at the Factory Studio Space

“False Start”, what happens when a misunderstood, football-obsessed teenage boy meets an intelligent, caring teenage girl? It’s textbook stuff: they fall in love, they get married, and they resent each other. Zoey and Jake have been together since high school. In the aftermath of a traumatic event, Zoey struggles to have a baby while dealing with the one she married. Opens June 30th, 10PM at St. Vladimir Theatre

“Persephone”, a young woman disappears, the world is cast into a lethal winter, and everyone’s version of the story is a little different. In the face of trauma, Persephone struggles to make sense of her own experience. A story of sexual awakening, coming of age, and a fight for autonomy when Persephone’s caught between a mother and a husband who both seek to own her. Opens July 1st, 4:45PM at the Helen Gardiner

These are just a few of the amazing shows who we’re cross promoting for. Follow @Hollyiswyder on twitter as well as @hilarysussman !

HAPPY FRINGING!

First Preview

ROMEOLINGAO-1-50We ran our piece for the first time in front of an audience. It was also the actors first stumble through. We then sat and asked for some feed back, which was super helpful. We are so excited to move forward in the next two weeks to get amped up for TORONTO FRINGE!

Front Page News

Okay, maybe that’s pushing it a bit. But we did make trending for our FWYC, which means you can see our campaign on the FWYC website’s front page. It’s super exciting for us.

And with that said I just want to give a huge shout out to all our backers as well as anyone who shared the link on their social media. It’s so easy to do but so easily forgotten how important it is to get the word out there.

Only four more days left and we’ll stop pestering you all about it!
